Her Successor The Classes

"What?! Why?!" Dawn asked.

"As Tormentors, we aren't supposed to shift the balance of the class structure," Silais said. Prism went over to a teal desk and pulled out a scroll from the drawer. She placed the scroll and unrolled it on the desk. The scroll outlines the class system of the 3 nations.

"On top, we have gifts, no surprise there, gifts are people with manifestations that are seen as pure or heavenly. It is believed by some that gifts get their powers from the heavens. Below gifts are Normals, which are exactly what they sound like normal people without gifts. They're seen as the middle ground and what humanity used to be. Finally, we have us at the bottom, Tormentors. Tormentors are known to be...the scum of the Earth, people born from devils and act as such. Tormentors usually exist from blood relations but if you were to marry a Tormentor you become a Tormentor baring the sins of your forefathers," Prism explained.

"So there's no way up for Tormentors?" Dawn asked.

"No, the way the system is we're at the bottom and will stay at the bottom," Silas explained. "Alessia had chosen Lana so that she could paint a new system creating change for Tormentors so that no one would be on the bottom,"

"Can't she do it now?" Dawn asked.

"No, she doesn't have the power to," Prism said. "Royalty has exceptional power that allows the person in power to ascend to something similar to Gift status but that only happens at the coronation," Prism explained.

"So if Dawn were to be accepted at the coronation then?"

"She'll probably be able to turn into a pterodactyl," Prism said rolling her eyes.

"Speaking of your manifestation, you can turn into more than just a bird right?" Scarlett asked.

"Yeah, I can turn into any animal I've seen with my eyes but it can't be from books or TV," Dawn explained.

"Then?" Silas said looking at Prism.

"Just as I said, she'll probably be able to turn into any animal she wishes," Prism said. "are there any defining features between you and real animals? It would be a shame if something happened to you when you transformed and we couldn't tell you apart,"

"I don't think I do," Dawn said thinking about it. Prism looked at Silas.

"Yeah," Silas confirmed.

"Good, Silas will be able to tell you apart from actual animals,"

"How?" Dawn asked.

"Silas believes that he is one with the Earth,"

"I am one with the Earth," Silas said.

"Yeah uh huh," Prism said uninterested. "any way he'll be able to tell you apart since he's got expertise in anything relating to the Earth,"

"That's great but what do we do when Silas isn't around?" Dawn asked.

"Make a nest on Scarlett's head," Prism joked.

"Hey!" Scarlett yelled as everyone laughed at Prism's joke.

As everyone laughed Lana walked into the room, the laughter quickly stopped as everyone noticed her.

"Hey, Lana," Prism said cautiously.

"Relax I'm fine," Lana said looking away.

"You sure?" Silas asked.

"What did I just say?" Lana said.

"Jeez, no need to get hostile,"

"I just want to be left alone," Lana said as she gathered her stuff.

"Where are you going?" Silas asked.

"I'm going to downstairs to sleep, I don't want to be around you guys right now," Lana said plainly as she walked out of the room with her things.

"She's so dramatic sometimes," Scarlett said annoyed.

"Is she always like that?" Dawn asked.

"No, not really," Prism said.

"Just when she doesn't get her way," Silas said.

"Really?" Dawn asked surprised.

"Yeah, I heard that she was the only kid brought to the orphanage," Scarlett said. Silas and Scarlett both looked at Prism.

"Nu uh, I'm not opening that can of worms," Prism said.

"Come on, you would know," Scarlett said pleading.

"How would she know?" Dawn asked.

"Prism was the first," Silas said. "Prism was the first child to find the orphanage,"

"Yeah how did you find it?" Scarlett asked. "Did you just stumble upon this place?"

"You could say that," Prism said.

"Come on tell us the story," Scarlett begged.

"What is this? Storytime?" Prism asked.

"Duh," Scarlett said getting into her bed and tucked herself in bed. "Come on Silas get into bed, you too Dawn," Scarlett instructed as the two got into bed.

"Are you serious?" Prism asked looking a bit disappointed. The three nodded as they laid in their tubes. Prism sighed.

"We're waiting Prism," Silas said.

"Fine fine," Prism gave in as she took a seat. "Before coming to the orphanage, I had a happy family life," Prism said as she reminisced with a smile on her face. "I lived with my mother, father, and twin sister,"

"Wait, you had a twin sister?!" Scarlett said in shock. "Where is she now?"

"If you let me finish, I can get to that," Prism said resting her hand on her palm. "anyway, I lived with my two parents, which is extremely rare for a Tormentor kid, but I was more than happy with my life. My mom was a musician and singer, and my dad was a government worker,"

"Is that why you began singing? Cause your mom was a singer?" Scarlett interrupted again.

"Irrelevenat," Prism said quickly. "One day, my mother took my sister and I out of our beds and snuck out of our house late at night. No matter how many times my sister and I asked where we were going my mom kept telling us "home"," Prism giggled. "I finally understand it now, in my mother's pursuit to escape our house, she was caught and told me and my sister to escape as she stayed behind,"

"What happened to her?" Dawn asked.

"She died that night," Prism said plainly.

"I'm so sorry Prism," Scarlett said on the verge of tears.

"We all have to die someday," Prism said sitting up straight. "back to the story, I grabbed my sister's hand we ran as fast as we could until we ran into a woman in a suit,"

"And she brought you two back with her," Director said as she walked into the room. "I didn't think you'd tell them the story,"

"Just a generalized story," Prism said.

"Yeah, you skipped over all the important details," Scarlett explained.

"I'll tell you the full story another time," Prism said. "We should get to bed, it's late,"

"I second that, you guys will have a lot to do tomorrow so get some rest," Director said as Prism got into her tube. "Good night kids,"

"Good night Director," Silas, Dawn, and Scarlett said in unison.

Prism laid in her tube in silence.
